Research shows that, in 2014 China's total costs in corrosion including the costs of loss in corrosion and anti-corrosion protection is more than 2.1 trillion yuan, approximately 3.34% of China’s GDP, equivalent to every Chinese bears corrosion costs of 1555 yuan per year. BaoRong Hou academicians pointed out that the corrosion is security issues, economic issues and ecological civilization, corrosion protection is an important part of the development strategy of "Area", corrosion prevention control strength is a reflection of civilization and prosperity of a country. Compared with Western countries and other developed countries, corrosion investigation in China started late, covering areas first. It urgent needs to carry out the corrosion costs investigation and anti-corrosion strategy study among the country, strengthens people's understanding of the hazards of corrosion, enhances the awareness of anti-corrosion. It is understood that the project started in 2014, the research field involved in highway bridges, ports, water conservancy project, offshore, chemical industry and and other 30 industries. It investigated and studied focus on aroud infrastructure, transportation, energy, water environment, production and other fields of corrosion conditions.Getting the corrosion costs data based on extensive investigation and study, and reveal the problems existing in the field of corrosion control in our country and the main factors restricting its development, put forward to solve the problem of corrosion control field in our country's strategic Suggestions and
countermeasures.Corrosion has the characteristics of universality, concealment, gradual and sudden, not only consume resources, environmental pollution, responsible for a large number of industrial accidents, endangering human health and safety. But also a common problem faced by all countries in the world.According to statistics, every year the corrosion loss approximately 3 to 5% of GDP in each country, it’s far greater than the sum of the natural disasters and accidents loss. Currently, introduces the research results of "the research of corrosion status and control strategies of China” series of books have been published. BaoRong Hou academician introduced that the present stage results mainly focus on the corrosion cost calculation, the next step of research will focus on specific anti-corrosion measures for various industries.
